Never Surrender Dreams

walkmanToday has been a really interesting day! Asked Oxfam music if they had any personal cassette players kicking around and was shocked and surprised to discover that they has this absolute beauty stashed away in the back, broken, unused and unloved.

For those who don’t recognise it, this is a Sony Walkman. Specifically, THE original walkman.

I decided that I had to get it, and took it home gleefully. Several hours later of fiddling, transplanting and a lot of figuring out what was wrong with it, I now have it up and running smoothly!

Old tech is gorgeous, and I feel really privileged to own this piece of history and to put it to good use (what, you want me to let it rot away in a display cabinet? No thanks)!

The next thing I need to do now is complete my funding campaign so I can put my own releases into my ears and dance around in an epic display of childhood wish-fulfilment!

The moral? Sometimes you realise that you have super powers. Turns out that one of mine is bringing the dead back to life 😛

Made in a Day, Released on a Tape?

Made in a day cassette tape

So, whack might be a way that people describe me for doing this, but I’m wanting to release a longer length version of my EP, ‘Made in a Day’ on cassette tape! Well, actually, I’m thinking of doing my entire discography on tape, it’s just that MIAD seemed the most appropriate to begin with! Most of my disco-graphy, including Made in a Day, currently don’t even have a CD release. I love downloads, but sometimes you just want something sexy to hold and a nice, intricate booklet to pour through as you listen to the album. I know I do!

The EP itself is a queercore/riot grrrl collection of songs that I wrote and recorded in the comfort of my studio, fueled by coffee and the perverted desire to talk about my feelings and experiences whilst hitting a guitar.

If you’d like to have a listen, you can check out the EP version on my bandcamp page: ‘Made In a Day’ on my Bandcamp page!

It’ll be a small scale release, but it’ll be professionally produced and printed. I only need around £100 (about $160) to make this happen, but I *am* rather poor at the moment (and in general).

So please, if you can, take the time to have a look, and even make a donation. Or if you can’t / don’t want to, but still want to help, please help share the link below! And without further ado, you can help out here!

On Plectra

This is the first of a number of posts following some of the many thoughts, feelings and experiences that I had during Nine Worlds geekfest 2014. Today’s subject is Plectra (or plectrums/picks), as it’s a possibly well-known fact that I have a huge love/hate relationship with them.

Pre Nine Worlds 2014 Schedule & Update

nospexnoprobs

Things have been really gearing up over the past few days in the lead up to Nine Worlds 2014. I took up acoustic guitar again, ready to take to the stage with as full a sound as I can get out of one instrument and my voice. In the process I broke a nail (specifically, my right thumbnail. Repeatedly) and developed calluses that anyone touching my fingers would notice. Excellent stuff. Also painful. there was blood.

I’m writing this update without my glasses at the moment, as I’m re-dying my hair. You just know shit got serious when I recolour my hair for a gig. Continue reading

An Introduction to ‘Arcadia City Blues’

In The Studio

Yes, I am in my pyjamas. My PJs welcome you to my life in the studio. They are also the perfect disguise with which to discuss the release of my debut album, obviously.

If you’re an artist, you might know the feeling of regret that comes at the end of a difficult year. So many wonderful ideas and so little that (comparatively) comes out of it. Don’t get me wrong, I did quite a few amazing things in 2013, but compared to the three years that preceded it, I definitely feel this was the worst in terms of productivity.

So this New Years Eve, I’d been quietly celebrating with two of my dearest friends. Nothing loud or raucous; I really needed a quiet one in this year. And of course, there is discussion of New Year’s resolutions. Continue reading
